The real responsibility of vows faced by nation and country rests on the shoulders of dictators, who have hijacked democracy and put the constitution and people's rights in abeyance, said speakers of an 'all parties conference', organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh over 'the deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh and killings of political and religious parties activists', here at Quba Auditorium on Sunday.
Naib Amir of JI Pakistan Senator Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed, who also chaired the moot, said that the leadership of all opposition parties has come to the conclusion that without a joint struggle over a common agenda the real democracy could not be restored.
He said that no one had 'conquered' Pakistan, but this country came into existence as a result of a political process. Professor Ghafoor said that in 1971 when the political process was stifled by the then army dictators, the country went divided and the nation lost a half of it. He said that he feared that the country could suffer another such tragedy if the dictators were bent to block the way of democracy.
He said that anger and unrest against the policies of present rulers was on the rise in the smaller provinces. He said that during the debate over budget two senators belonging to Balochistan had torn the copies of budget on the floor of the senate to express their disapproval of the policies of government.
He said that the opposition parties wanted to discuss the sensitive matters like privatisation of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) in parliament but the ruling party foiled their all such efforts. He alleged that the real decision-making on vital national matters was being carried out 'out of parliament'.
Earlier, PPP leader professor N D Khan said that in past when any thing used to go wrong in Sindh, all political parties had to seek the help of army for change of administration.
Awami Tahreek Chairman Rasool Bux Palejo alleged that the country was left on the mercy of generals, and masses had virtually no rights.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Sindh President MNA Asadullah Bhutto said that the lives of people of Sindh were made miserable.
Abdul Karim Abid of JUI said that Ulema were being murdered in broad daylight but the government was sitting crossed-legged. He said that the political parties should come at a joint platform to face this worrisome situation. He said that his party would support all steps taken in this regard from the platform of MMA or JI.
Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party (STPP) Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi accused the political parties of the opposition of being inactive and not responding to crucial issues, timely. He said that now the opposition parties were making hue and cry against the Sindh governor, but when the same person was being made governor they were all silent.
Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Mamnoon Hussain alleged that army dictators were responsible for all the vows of the nation. He alleged that all national institutions had been weakened due to repeated army rules in the country. Zain Ansari, Qamar Bhatti, Allama Hassan Turbai, Khan Ammanullah Khan, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Hafiz Muhammad Taqi and others also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the all parties' conference demanded through a resolution that for holding free and fair local bodies' elections in peaceful manner in whole Sindh including Karachi, the present Sindh government and the governor should be sacked and a 'caretaker government' be formed. It was demanded that the coming polls should be held in the supervision of the judiciary.
It was also demanded that police and administration should be cleaned from diehard activists of a particular political party. The other demands included the registration of FIRs against the nominated killers of Mufti Shamzai, Munawer Suhrawardi, Abdullah Murad, Mufti Jameel, Mufti Atiqur Rehman, Mufti Irshad, Aslam Mujahid, and workers of Sunni Tehreek; Sindh be given its due share of water; financial sources should be distributed amongst provinces through NFC Award by considering revenue collection of the provinces.
The APC also demanded that the provinces should be given the provincial autonomy according to the constitution and concrete list should be given to them. It demanded that tribal clashes and lawlessness in the province should be brought to an end and affected persons should be given compensation.
