State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Chaudhary Zafar Iqbal, has categorically stated that the local government elections would not be postponed. "Term of existing local bodies is not being extended," he said while talking to APP. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan would soon announce the schedule for the local government elections, adding that soon after the announcement of schedule administrators would replace district and tehsil nazims to ensure fair, free and transparent polls.
Responding to a question, he said there were no differences in the ranks of Pakistan Muslim League.
"No MNA belonging to the ruling party is resigning to take part in the local government elections," he clarified.
The minister said certain elements were mongering such rumours just to create uncertainty in the country.
