CBR enhances powers of intelligence directorate general officers

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has empowered officers of the directorate general of intelligence and investigation, customs and excise, to use certain powers of federal excise officers. The CBR has superseded SRO.543 (I)/75 of May 8, 1975 through an SRO.654(I)/2005 issued on Thursday.
Officers of the directorate general of intelligence and investigation not below the rank of deputy superintendent would be empowered to exercise powers of sections 22, 23, 25 and 26 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.
Following is the text of the notification issued on Thursday:
In exercise of powers conferred by clause (12) of section 2 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005 read with clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 29, and in supersession of its notification number SRO.543(I)/75 dated May 8, 1975, the Central Board of Revenue is pleased to invest officers of the directorate general of intelligence and investigation (customs and excise), not below the rank of deputy superintendent, with powers of a federal excise officer under sections 22, 23, 25 and 26 of the said act read with chapter XIII of the Federal Excise Rules, 2005.
2) This notification shall take effect from the July 1, 2005.
