BBC Urdu bulletin case adjourned

05 Jul, 2005

A Special Division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday adjourned the hearing of a plea for July 14, seeking permission to re-broadcast BBC Urdu service bulletins by private radio. The court adjourned the hearing due to lack of time. The petition filed by Muhammad Imran submitted that he was running a radio channel FM-103 and was re-broadcasting BBC Urdu programmes.
He submitted that Pemra had issued him notice to completely stop re-broadcasting of bulletins of the BBC Urdu Service over its network by April 2, failing which, its licences for Karachi Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan shall stand automatically cancelled/revoked.
He prayed the court to set aside the notice issued by the respondent and allow him to re-broadcast the service of BBC Urdu.
