The collectorate of customs, sales tax and central excise, Multan, has made record recovery of Rs 19,618 million which has been highly appreciated by the Central Board of Revenue (CBR), said Ejaz Shah, Collector of customs and sales tax, Multan while briefing about the performance during 2004-05. He was assisted by Assistant Collector, Dry Port, Rashid Munir Siddiqui.
Ejaz said that CBR had fixed the target of customs duty of Rs 496 million, "but we have collected customs duty of Rs 4460 million which is almost 900 percent higher, because Rashid Munir Siddiqui made efforts to attract importers and exporters to use Multan dry port, and he also managed to get assignments of Parco of refined white oil which added the customs duty revenue of Rs 3000 million."
The Collector said that exports had increased to Rs 18 billion from Rs 13 billion of previous year.
Rashid said: "We introduced round-the-clock clearance system at Multan dry port to facilitate the importers, and have added three manufacturers-cum-exporters/importers ie Arain, Fatima, and Reliance group of industries."
