The government has decided to set up modern border terminals (MBT) at Chaman, Wagah, Taftan and Torkhum to encourage trade with Afghanistan, India and Iran. Official sources told Business Recorder on Friday that the government has given assignment to Central Board of Revenue (CBR), Ministry of Commerce and National Logistic Cell (NLC) to work out the modalities for establishing these border terminals.
The Prime Minister has constituted a steering committee to co-ordinate and supervise the establishment of the modern border terminals. The steering committee comprises Minister for Commerce as Chairman and members include Secretary Commerce, representatives of Communication, Interior, and Foreign Affairs ministries, Planning Commission, Central Board of Revenue, National Logistic Cell, Government of NWFP, Balochistan and Punjab.
