International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) in collaboration with Pakistan Society of Paediatric Oncology, intend to offer a fellowship training programme for local doctors in the discipline of cancer among children.
Dr Aziza Shad, chairperson, Global Education Unit of INCTR, talking to APP here on Saturday, said Pakistani doctors with their residency in paediatrics, preferably associated with public sector institutions, would be preferred for the programme. Dr Aziza Shad is also the Director, Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Division (Blood and Marrow Transplant Tissue Programme), Lombardi Cancer Center, George Town University Hospital USA.
It may be mentioned that the USA office of INCTR, which was established some six years ago in Brussels under the supervision of Dr Ian Magrath, is sponsoring series of research-cum-training programmes for young doctors associated with the developing countries.
As for Pakistan, she said local doctors were offered six months training in reputed institutions of USA, however reluctance on part of many to return back to their countries of origin, has led to certain change in the INCTR strategy.
