Arbab launches local bodies electioneering campaign

13 Jul, 2005

Sindh Chief Minister and Provincial PML(Q) President Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that local bodies elections are part of political process, and being a politician his participation in these elections cannot be termed violation by any canon of law.
This he said to justify his electioneering campaign while talking to newsmen soon after attending a meeting of prospective candidates for local bodies polls at Mirpurkhas.
He said no doubt LB elections are being held on non-party basis and as such no party, including PML(Q), has launched any electioneering campaign from the party platform. However, there are groups such as Awam Dost which would launch election campaign.
He said there is no ban on individual politician to participate in election process irrespective of his political belief.
He said he was here not to nominate candidates for election of various union councils and District Nazims but to help people in developing the consensus of opinion on nominating a popular candidate.
Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said not only in Mirpurkhas but also in Thar district a consensus was developed on over hundred prospective candidates and adjustment of seats, adding a large number of people have joined the ranks of PML(Q).
Meanwhile, Sindh PPP President Syed Qaim Ali Shah engaged in consolidating the party ranks and files, said anyone who entered election alliances with PML(Q) would be ousted from the party.
MMA leaders announced that they would participate in local bodies elections with full force with other like-minded groups. They also indicated that their talks with ARD are in progress.
Sindh Minister and Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Shoaib Bukhari, who was here the other day, said that his party would adjust seats with PML, other allied parties, and groups.
