Raw sugar futures closed mixed Thursday as fund buying was offset by producer sales and the sweetener is seen trading in a band ahead of the weekend, brokers said. The New York Board of Trade's October sugar contract rose 0.01 cent to close at 9.59 cents a lb, dealing from 9.49 to 9.60 cents.
On a spot basis, it was the best close for sugar since trading near 9.65 cents in February 2001. March was flat at 9.69 cents.
The rest lost 0.01 or 0.02 cent.
