The Indian beauty queen and screen idol Aishwarya Rai is likely to visit Pakistan in September on an official invitation as part of the UN awareness drive to eradicate polio. "I have invited Aishwarya to visit Pakistan and contribute in eradicating this deadly disease," Federal Health Minister Muhammad Nasir Khan told newsmen here on Thursday.
Aishwarya Rai, who became Miss World in 1994 and also has won the crown of Queen of Asia and Oceania, is presently UN Goodwill Ambassador in India.
The minister said a countrywide polio campaign would be launched in September in which Aishwarya Rai would also take part to create awareness among the people about the disease.
United Nation has also appointed renowned Pakistani pop singer Jawad Ahmed its Goodwill Ambassador for Polio in Pakistan.
Jawed Ahmed and Aishwarya both would help the government in its awareness drive, Nasir Khan added. Several celebrities, particularly from Showbiz, have been appointed by different UN programmes as their Goodwill Ambassadors to divulge its message through them.
