A Bangladeshi actress suffered burns when unidentified attackers threw acid at her as she left a shopping centre in the capital Dhaka, police said Tuesday.
The actress, who is known only as Prema, filed a complaint with the police alleging her former husband and father-in-law were behind the attack, senior police officer Mohammad Akhteruzzman told AFP.
"Prema, accompanied by her housemaid, suffered burn injuries to her left hand. Her housemaid also suffered similar burn injuries," Akhteruzzman said.
Prema, who is in her twenties, has appeared in several films produced by the Dhaka-based Bengali film industry, popularly known as "Dhaliwood".
Her latest film entitled "Spot Dead" has just been released.
Police said they were investigating whether a dispute with her former husband over a piece of land was the motive for the attack.
