Faisalabad Dry Port Trust (FDPT) handled 29,613 export containers during 20O4-2005, said the Trust Chairman Shehzad Ali Siddiqi. He said this upcountry dry port also handled 5289 import containers during that period, while the quantity was comparatively lower at 3289 in the previous year.
"The professional management of the dry port worked hard under the supervision of committed trustees for speedy customs clearance and handling of the export and import cargo" he added.
The evening shift at FDPT and Pakistan Automation Revenue Ltd (PARL) was receiving export documents late in the evening till 8.00 pm and the cargo was dispatched the same night after customs clearance through bonded carriers.
He said that FDPT was the only upcountry port of private sector, which was ISO certified and was providing on-line tracking system to its export and import cargo from right from Faisalabad to Karachi.
"Five checkposts have been established to continuously monitor the movement of the bonded carriers," he observed.
He said the FDP has completed construction on the Sargodha Terminal which will become operational during the next Kinno season (October 2005). As many as 6000 Kinno containers are exported from district Sargodha every year and the new terminal will provide export facility to exporters at their doorstep, he said.
"A weekly cargo train has also been arranged to send export cargo from Faisalabad Dry Port to Karachi Port," said the FDPT chief.
