The Regional Office of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) is in a process of developing a training manual for community members and technical support teams involved in implementation of Community Based Initiatives (CBI) like Basic Needs Programme in the region.
WHO sources talking to newsmen here on Thursday said a standardised methodology based on practical needs of the community based on practical needs of the community with participatory training approach, supported by follow up and monitoring system is being adopted for the ever expanding programme. It would be appropriate to mention that Basic Development Needs (BDN) initiatives aims to make people move through behaviour change communication with major emphasis on the fact that health is a way to live and not something to be given.
According to sources focus during the very programme would be on standardised and unified training material for the community representatives. It would further serve as an advocacy tool for the promotion of health and development initiatives in the region. The CBI Training Manual for Communities clearly describes the CBI concept and implementation methodology and covers aspects ranging from community organisation and mobilisation; community based planning; health for development; appropriate technologies; women in health and development; documentation and reporting to community ownership and sustainability.
