06 Aug, 2005

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has directed restructuring of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) as a marketing organisation to promote the Pakistani brands. The premier after a presentation by the Ministry of Commerce for restructuring of EPB at the PM House said on Friday 'the future of the country lies in increasing exports and the endeavour should be to identify new products and markets.'
He called for the need of diversification of exports and taking new initiatives to promote and facilitate exports.
Prime Minister Aziz said: "The EPB needs to do analysis of various markets and products and facilitate and guide exporters to find new avenues of exports." He said the EPB should arrange trade fairs and target importers overseas as well as exporters inside the country.
He called for appointing industry experts for each sector identified by the EPB having a potential for exports. The premier said these experts should be well conversant with the developments and sought by local exporters for guidance and support.
Prime Minister Aziz also advised the EPB to identify certain geographical regions and concentrate its activities in gaining access for Pakistani products to these specified regions.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan, chairman EPB Tariq Ikram and senior government officials.
