Geologist, scholar dies

Prominent geologist, scholar and author of many books Dr Syed Hamid Ali Shah passed away here on Saturday at local hospital after protracted illness. Dr Hamid Shah got his BSc and Ph D degrees from Muslim University Aligarh and London University with honour.
He, as a geologist, covering distance on foot surveyed the Margalla range and adjoining areas to discover the waterbed before launching of Islamabad as a federal capital.
Hamid Shah served in Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) and Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) in senior positions.
He rendered a great service in the discovery of new oil reservoirs and promotion of oil industry in Libya. The Libyan government had awarded him a medal in recognition to his services.
After returning from Libya, he concentrated on literary activities.
He wrote books on "Scientific approach of Ghalib" and "Scientific ideas of Iqbal" based on scientific ideas present in the poetry of famous poets Ghalib and Allama Iqbal besides writing books on Hazrat Umer (RA) and Hazrat Ali (RA).
