LHC allows candidates to contest local bodies' polls

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed a candidate Hafiz Ishfaq Ahmed to contest local bodies election from UC-63. The LHC observed that a person could not be stopped from contesting election, unless the court convicts him. The returning officer had rejected his nomination papers on the ground that he is involved in 11 criminal cases.
Moreover, the LHC also allowed Dr Iqbal to contest election for UC-113. His rival candidate had challenged his nomination papers on the ground that he is a government employee.
The LHC issued notices in a petition filed by one Malik Imtiaz Ali challenging the nomination papers of LB candidate Ghulam Muhammad on the ground that he had produced F-grade matric certificate before the returning officer.
