Heavy downpour lashed industrial city here on Monday, inundating low lying areas and turning most of the roads including Jhang Bazar and Montogomery Bazar (Yarn Market) into rivulets causing problems for business community as well as pedestrians.
The rain forced the traders to keep their shutters down. Power tripping also frustrated the people. The rain, which continued for over an hour turning thoroughfares into streams resulting in traffic jams in different areas. Roads submerged in knee-deep water, including in the posh areas.
The worst-affected areas included Nishatabad, Allama Iqbal Colony and other various localities of Jhang road.
According to reports from Chiniot, a villager Ahmad Khan was killed, when roof of his house was collapsed. Another person Ali Ahmad was killed during dust storm, when his motorcycle collided with a tree near village Rasheeda. One Imtanan Shahid (5) was electrocuted in a marriage ceremony, when he received electric shock from a live wire. Fourth person was electrocuted in a village of Tandilanwala.
According to hospital sources, six people including three children were injured when roof and wall of their houses collapsed at various parts of the city.
