12 Aug, 2005

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), slamming the police raid on election office of PML-N backing candidates and arrest of two leaders Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, MNA and Rao Anis-ur-Rehman from there, termed the mishandling a move to keep the opposition quiet.
Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, MNA, who along with another leader Rao Anis was victimised by the police during the raid, said the government wanted to keep the opposition away from the electioneering and force was being used to harass them. Gulgasht police arrested Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, MNA and Rao Anis-ur-Rehman while they were sitting in the election office of Rao Anis to discuss the election canvassing process.
He warned the authorities to abstain from using such tactics otherwise the opposition might be compelled to retaliate in the same coin. The MNA said he would submit a privilege motion in the parliament for taking him in the custody without assigning any reason and kept him in unlawful confinement.
