The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued notice to Punjab Advocate General in an election petition filed by one Shaukat Ali of Faisalabad contesting the local bodies election for the office of Nazim, challenging the decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petitioner's counsel contended that the Lahore High Court has rejected Shaukat's appeal, as the petitioner was qualified from a Madrassah.
It was contended that the Peshawar High Court had already allowed those LB candidates, who were qualified from Madrassah to contest the local bodies elections.
The apex court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel, called for a report from the Election Commission and directed the law officer to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
