The United States on Wednesday commended Pakistan for its role in the ongoing global fight against terrorism. Deputy Spokesman of the State Department, Adam Ereli said "both,Pakistan and the United States are working together as partners in global war on terror.
However, as far as fight against extremism was concerned, he said, Pakistan was a sovereign country and it was taking a sovereign action.
Ereli was briefing newsmen at the Foreign Press Center on the state of US foreign relations.
He said this in response to a question by newsmen on the level of co-operation in global war on terror.
Ereli said it was on September 12, 2001, one day after 9/11, that President Pervez Musharraf took the decision to fight against terrorism. as a global ally.
He referred to the precious sacrifices of life rendered by the Personnel of the Armed Forces in the operation against foreign fugitives feared to be hiding on Pak-Afghanistan border area.
"We co-operate in a number of ways to track Terrorists," Ereli said.
As far as crackdown on extremism is concerned, he made it clear that Pakistan was a sovereign country, and it was taking its own action. "Pakistanis have shown time and again that they are resolved and determined" to root out terrorism and extremism, he stated.
