THE RUPEE: currency rates move both ways

14 Aug, 2005

The rupee did not go under any major change in its overnight levels against the dollar in the interbank market for buying and selling at 59.66 and59.67, respectively. Balanced demand and supply factor helped the rupee to retain its firmness versus the dollar, dealers said.
In the world markets, the dollar rose modestly against the euro due to a bout of profit-taking in the European currency after three consecutive sessions of gains, but dollar sentiment remained weak.
The rupee gained 20 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 73.80 and Rs 74.00 in the process of trading, moneychangers said.
