ICAO completes audit for aviation security

16 Aug, 2005

An International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) audit team completed on Monday security audit for the aviation security (AVSEC) system in place with focus on Jinnah International Airport (JIAP).
Following concerns expressed after the 9/11 catastrophe, ICAO, an international body for civil aviation, had laid down standards and recommended practices for the safety and security of aviation industry.
It started regular, mandatory, systematic and harmonised audits of its 188-member states and with their concurrence prepared a universal security audit programme (USAP). Since Pakistan, as a signatory state to ICAO security conventions is obliged to implement these provisions, it gave concurrence for audit with effect from August 8 to 17.
The objective of these audits is to closely examine the implementation of the standards contained in ICAO's security provisions and to suggest corrective actions in the security chain.
