Ministers, relatives warned for violating code of ethics

On the directive of Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, the District Returning Officer and Sessions Judge, Muzaffargarh, summoned Minister of State Shahid Jamil Qureshi, his elder brother Muhammad Ayub Qureshi, SSP Punjab Constabulary, Chunnu Jatoi, Punjab Minister for Livestock Haroon Sultan's father Sultan Ahmed Shah, and warned them not to involve them in unlawful activities and violating of the code of ethics.
They were alleged to be interfering in the ongoing local government election campaign. The Election Commissioner took action after receiving a complaint from the candidates for the slot of nazim from union councils of Taliri, Muzaffargarh, Shehr Sultan and Jatoi, including Allah Bakhsh Mujahid who alleged that SSP Punjab Constabulary was playing the role of parallel DPO, harassing the opponents.
The candidate had complained that the ministers and other elected representatives of the government were interfering in election in favour of their candidates.
They accused the provincial government of using state machinery, of attending public meetings and of launching development schemes without tenders in union councils.
