Chairman National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Daniyal Aziz has urged the politicians to support local government system in best interest of the country.
Talking to BBC he said, democracy was dear to every country. And efforts were being made to lay the foundation, which might give birth to a real democratic country.
To a question he said, in the days to come it would not be possible for any political party to ignore the local government.
To another question he said that democracy was a system of government in which people were sovereign and were not dependent on any administrative framework. They could bring forth their own way of life, political process in their own way, he added.
"We observed that when Union Council Elections were held in 2001, and later when elections of Nazims at Tehsil and District level were held, people had very little knowledge about them because it was a new system. Though we had made all out effort to make the people aware of the system."
He said, "We are making all out efforts, and we shall tackle the problems in the best possible way."
Replying to a question about accountability he said, there was no doubt that there had been some delay. But it was wrong to say that there was altogether no check and balance system in it.
Now elections were being held and people should make use of their vote. They should also raise their voice against corruption. This could be rectified only through a healthy and democratic society, he added.
"The administration has never been able alone to do this any where in the world," Danyal remarked.
