As many as 71,591 personnel of rangers and police would be deployed in Sindh for the coming local bodies elections. This was stated by Director General of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Major General Javed Zia, here on Tuesday.
He said in Karachi 10,665 Jawans of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh and in the interior of Sindh, 8,444 Jawans of Rangers would be deployed and the total comes to 19,109.
The DG Rangers further pointed out that 35,272 policemen would be deployed in Karachi and 17,210 in the interior and that the total regular force of police would be 52,482. In addition to this, the police would also raise the auxiliary forces.
Jeved Zia pointed out that there would be shuffling as far as the personnel of law enforcement agencies are concerned.
In the phase one of local bodies elections, Karachi is the pressure point and police and Rangers personnel would be brought from some places in the interior Sindh to this metropolis and in the phase two they would be sent back to the interior and that additional squads would also be sent with them.
DG Rangers was of the view that by the grace of Almighty Allah there is no very sensitive polling station and that "we have managed and accounted for." However, for deployment purposes there is a categorisation of polling stations, he added and explained that it is not necessary that such a deployment is owing to the polling station being sensitive. This may be owing to environment and because of the past record.
Javed Zia pointed out that category-A polling stations in Karachi are 1,513 and category-B polling stations are 1,850.
In the interior Sindh in phase 1, the category-A polling stations are 533 and category-B polling stations are 2,680. In phase 2, the category-A polling stations are 1,031 and category-B polling stations are 4,976.
Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, who was also present, said the main operational command would be with the DG Rangers. He said all the required arrangements by the law enforcement agencies have been completed for holding the elections.
