Petition filed for early hearing of Sanad case

19 Aug, 2005

A petition seeking early hearing of a pending plea challenging equivalence of the degrees of Deeni Madaris with graduation was filed on Thursday in the Supreme Court.
The petition was filed by advocate Aslam Khaki. A previous petition about the issue is already pending before the court. Khaki in his petition said on 16-8-2005 a bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan and Justice Sayed Saeed Ashhad held that the degrees of Deeni Madaris are not equivalent to Matriculation for the purpose of eligibility for election of Nazims and Naib Nazims until the holder of these degrees passes the exams in subjects of Pakistan Studies, English and Urdu.
The petitioner said that the same point of equivalence was involved in his petition and in the interest of justice and consistency it should be heard and decided at the earliest.
