THE RUPEE: 85 paisa gain versus euro in open market

The rupee managed to recover solid gains versus the euro in the open market on Friday, picking up 85 paisa for buying and selling at 72.50 and 72.80, dealers said.
The local currency was able to recover with its lost ground versus the single European currency on falling euro's demand slightly in the international markets, money experts said.
The rupee sustained its overnight levels versus the dollar for buying and selling at 60.10 and 60.20 in process of trading, they added.
In the international market, the dollar depicted mixed pattern against the leading currency, they said.
The rupee-dollar parity rates, seems to be under pressure on increasing demand for the greenback, they said.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar's trading commenced at Thursday's closing rates of Rs 60.20 and Rs 60.30 on buying and selling counters, respectively. With the increase in dollar's demand, its rate started moving up soon after resumption of trading and finally closed at Rs 60.25 and Rs 60.35 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers added.
Similarly, the local currency remained under pressure and registered loss against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 107.40 and was sold at Rs 107.60 as compared to Rs 107.30 and Rs 107.70 of Thursday, the dealers added.
The dollar opened at Rs 59.95 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling) against same previous rate. It did not observe any further change in the second session and closed at Rs 59.95 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 107.50 (buying) Rs 108 (selling) against last rate of Rs 106.35 (buying) and Rs 106.70 (selling). It did not observe any further fluctuation by the end of the second session and closed at Rs 107.50 (buying) Rs 108 (selling).
