CPA Asia region speakers call on Senate chairman

The speaker of Sri Lankan Parliament, W.J.M. Lokubandara; speaker of People's Majlis Maldives Ahmed Zahir and Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament called on the Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro here on Sunday.
During the meeting, matters relating to adoption of the constitution of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Asia region came under discussion, said a press release here.
There was a general consensus that the platform of CPA Asia Region would enable the member countries to exchange ideas and work in unison paving the way for developing the region as a model.
Senate chairman Mohammedmian Soomro stated that the first session of the CPA Asia Region would lay the foundation of an organization where most of the issues confronting the member countries could be discussed.
He said: "There is tremendous potential and the exchange visits of students, journalists, parliamentarians and people from various walks of life would provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between the member countries."
The deputy speaker of Bangladesh Parliament suggested that regular exchange of parliamentary delegations and the visits of officials would strengthen the CPA Asia Region and help to understand parliamentary practices.
The suggestion of the BD deputy speaker was also supported by the two speakers.
