The current law and order situation in Sindh came under detailed review at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at Governor House here on Sunday. The meeting was attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Information Adviser to Sindh CM Salahuddin Haider, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman and senior officials of federal and provincial organisations.
At the outset, the Prime Minister congratulated the Sindh administration for holding first phase of local bodies' elections in a smooth manner with good turnout of voters, which, he observed, showed the confidence of people in the system.
Shaukat Aziz told the officials that now they are to address the post-election problems. He said the alarms raised during pre-election period that conditions will worsen proved wrong. The Prime Minister observed those who wanted to disturb the peaceful atmosphere failed in their objective and nothing serious happened. But, he made it clear to the officials that there should be no room for complacency and they will have to remain alert and do more work to maintain conducive atmosphere for the second phase.
The Prime Minister directed them to be prepared for the next phase in a manner that no problem is faced and called for greater co-ordination between law enforcing agencies in this regard.
