CBR develops income tax return 'workbook'

24 Aug, 2005

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has developed workbooks to guide the taxpayers for proper filing of income tax returns for tax year 2005. The 'Facilitation and Taxpayer Education (FATE) Wing' of CBR has developed 'workbooks' with in-built calculations and formulas aimed at facilitating and educating the taxpayers.
Besides assisting taxpayers to understand their rights and obligations, these 'workbooks' will also assist tax professionals to prepare standardised and error-free income tax returns, 'Statement' and 'Annex'.
While developing these 'workbooks', it has been kept in view to make them useful to deal with most common tax problems/situations. The users must remember that all sheets of these 'workbooks' are protected (cannot be altered), except the fields/cells distinctly coloured and requiring data input.
However, complex and unique tax situations may need specific corrections and adjustments in these calculations by the user. To alter any calculations, 'un-protect' the sheet, using tools, protection and 'un-protect option'. The CBR has asked the taxpayers to remember to 're-protect' the sheet--for security reasons.
A separate sheet is used for each return form, statement and annex, and is named accordingly. All these individual sheets are inter-connected with each other for various calculations. Deleting any of the sheets will affect the calculations of the entire 'workbook'.
"Therefore, do not delete any form, statement or annex (sheet of the workbook). Just ignore and do not print the form, statement or annex, which is not applicable in a specific case."
The CBR has advised the users to use 'Tab' and 'Tab+Shift' buttons to quickly navigate between the fields/cells distinctly coloured and requiring data input from the user. Wherever necessary, links have been provided for quick navigation between each form, statement or annex (sheets of the workbook). "Do not use negative sign with any data input unless specifically mentioned against the corresponding field/cell".
Page setting for printing purposes is for legal paper (81/2" x 14"). In case of any printing problems, just reduce the printing scale from the existing 100 %, using the File, Page Setup, Page and Scaling options.
These 'workbooks' can also be accessed and downloaded from CBR's website www.cbr.gov.pk.
The details of these 'workbooks' are as under:-
