In a bid to prevent fatal accidents in future, Automatic Train Protection System (ATPS) would be installed preliminary at four stations within three months. "On experimental basis the ATPS would be installed at four stations within three months," Director Operations Pakistan Railways Ministry of Railways Syed Nasir Zaidi told PTV on Tuesday.
For making the ATPS more effective the signalling system of the entire railway track would be modernised. VHF system was being installed for maintaining close liaison between driver, guard and stationmaster. In the first phase VHS system in 150 engines have already been installed in a bid to forewarn driver in case of any emergency, he said. The remaining 200 engines would soon be equipped with the VHF system. Elaborating further he said, the VHF system has already been installed from Rawalpindi to Lahore.
