Three killed in heavy rain

Heavy rain lashed the industrial city on Sunday causing widespread flooding and three persons including a Rickshaw Driver were killed in accidents caused by the thunderstorm, when heavy publicity sign boards collapsed and electric poll lines broken.
Meanwhile, a massive power failure was recorded in various parts of the city including Chiniot Bazar, Circular road, Press Market and many other areas plunged into darkness eight to nine hours. Resultantly, six newspapers could not published on Monday due to massive power failure.
According to details, a rickshaw driver Mohammad Yousaf was killed while five of his family members sustained serious injuries when a huge publicity board uprooted during thunderstorm and fell on the Rickshaw near Railway Station.
In another incident, a publicity board fell on a rickshaw on Satiana road, critically injuring its driver Frances Masih.
About six rickshaws and a car were also damaged when large billboards fell on them in Satiana road, Jaranwala road, GTS Chowk, Kohinoor Chowk, outside Railway Station and Jhal Khanuana overhead bridge areas.
Heavy rain lashed the city, paralysing routine life and inundating low-lying areas. Power supply remained suspended throughout the day in People's Colony, Madina Town, Batala Colony, Civil Lines, Circular road, Jail road and Jinnah Colony and Chiniot Bazar.
Two children were also electrocuted at various places. According to hospital sources, more then two dozen injured persons brought into the hospital for medical treatment, while three remained admitted and stated to be serious condition.
