A 13-year-old scavenger lost his life on Wednesday noon as he slipped into sewage and filth-filled drain located around Tariq Road. He was said to be one of the four young scavengers of Afghan origin, aged between 10-13 years who while collecting garbage from the site lost their balance and stumbled into the filth.
A traffic constable, Khadim Hussain on duty at the Allah Wala roundabout, Shahrae Quaideen off Tariq Road along with some passers-by after listening to their screams managed to pull one of them out.
Edhi ambulance immediately shifted all the four to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. On arrival at the emergency ward of the hospital, one of the children was pronounced dead.
Sindh Health Department sources said all the remaining three children were saved. Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani along with MPA Akhter Bilgrami arrived on the spot and issued instructions for provision of all medical care to the injured children.
