THE RUPEE: firm trend in open market

Firmer trend was seen in the open market on Wednesday as the rupee maintained its overnight levels versus the dollar for buying and selling at 60.05 and 60.15, dealers said. In general, improved supplies by the exporters helped the rupee to retain its overnight levels, they added.
In the early session, the rupee showed firmness against euro at Rs 72.80 and Rs 73.10, but it failed to hold its firmness shed 10 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 72.70 and Rs 73.00, dealers said.

According to the currency dealers, there was no change in dollar's demand and supply conditions, which helped rupee, maintain its overnight closing price. The dollar's trading commenced at Tuesday's closing of Rs 60.10 and Rs 60.20 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar recorded fractional change of one-two paisa in its value during the day's trading but finally closed at the opening level, the dealers said.
However, the rupee showed strength and registered improvement in its value against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased at Rs 107.10 and was sold at Rs 107.40 as compared to previous closing of Rs 107.30 and Rs 107.60, respectively, the dealers added.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.05 (buying) and Rs 60.15 (selling) against last rate of Rs 59.95 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling). It did not observe any further change in the evening spell and closed at Rs 60.05 (buying) and Rs 60.15 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 107.20 (buying) Rs 107.70 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change by the end of the second session and closed at Rs 107.50 (buying) Rs 108 (selling).
