Polls duty and public transport

25 Aug, 2005

According to the print media and one's own practical experience, it is stated that the police had impounded hundreds of public transport vehicles for the election duty. Due to this illegal and immoral action of police authorities, people have faced great hardships for 2/3 days prior to the election day to reach their destination, particularly those who are doing jobs, senior citizens, ladies etc.
It is quite silly to impound public transport for election duty and put the general public in trouble, it is a fact that thousands of vehicles are lying with the army without use these days. Why to the government did not utilise the services of these idle vehicles?
When the army was called to control the situation in various parts of the country during the election then it is also in the interest of the nation to ask the army to put their fleet on the road and public transport should not be involved in election duty.
