New Zealand's Telecom Corp must refund mobile customers targeted in campaigns in 2000 and 2001 because of misleading advertising, a court ruled on August 25. New Zealand's competition regulator said the Court of Appeal had found Telecom Mobile seriously misled consumers in a door-to-door and telephone campaign to win customers from rivals such as Vodafone on to Telecom's 027 network.
The court found Telecom, New Zealand's largest telco, had failed to tell consumers about their rights, including the right to change their mind within seven days of accepting an offer, the Commerce Commission said.
