Oath-taking ceremony arrangements finalised for new LG members: EC

Secretary Election Commission (EC), Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad on Monday said the arrangements have been finalised for oath taking ceremony of newly elected local governments' (LGs) representatives.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan has issued directives to newly elected Nazims, Naib Nazims and other elected members of every Union Council to approach the office of Assistant Election Commissioner (AEC) of their respective district with fresh photographs for issuing of Identity Cards (IDs).
He said it was necessary for every newly elected member to get ID before oath taking ceremony.
He added that EC has also directed the District and Sessions Judges of the districts of Phase-I elections to designate Judicial Officers for their appointment as Presiding Officers by the Chief Election Commissioner for administering Oath of office of Nazims, Naib Nazims and members in Union Councils.
To a question, he said international observers, local and international media have appreciated EC for conducting free and fair LB elections.
All the international observers have all praised Elections Commission's arrangements for holding LB elections, he added.
To another question he said there was 48 per cent turnout in the two phases of local government elections.
Kanwar Dilshad expressed hope the schedule of third phase of LB elections would be announced by Wednesday.
To a question he said EC has set-up tribunals in all districts to redress complaints regarding LB polls.
