Punjab University announces BA and BSc results

The Punjab University on Tuesday announced the results of B.A./B.Sc. Annual Examination 2005 with pass percentage of 35.68 as out of total 142,785 candidates appeared in the examination, 50,951 were declared successful.
It is pertinent to mention that private candidates Humaira Zia from Mandi Bahauddin District and Nadia Shaukat from Lahore bagged first and third positions securing 643/800 and 631/800 marks respectively, while Aqleem Fatima of Government College for Women, Chunian, District Kasur stood second with 637 marks. For the first time none of the colleges either boys or girls from Lahore, which is known to be the 'city of colleges', could get single position in the examination.
Similarly, in the B.Sc. examination Ambreen Uzair of Government College for Women, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi secured 659 marks and was placed at first position in the B.Sc. examination. Sumaira Bibi of Federal Government College for Women, Wah Cantt., and Seyda Ammara Bokhari of Government Islamia College for Women, Hafizabad stood second and third with 633 and 632 marks, respectively.
Not only the top positions, but also the overall pass percentage of the female candidates remained significantly higher than that of the boys appearing in the exam. In B.A examination, the girls candidates pass percentage remained 41.37 against 25.64 of boys, while in B.Sc. the pass percentage of girls students remained 50.32 as compared to boys' 22.16.
According to the statistical analysis, not a single candidate of Government Degree College Daska, Government College for Women, Daska, Government Zamindar Science College G.T. Road, Gujrat, Federal Government College Kharian Cantt., Government College Ravi Road, (Shahdara) Lahore, Government Islamia College Sangla Hill, Government College for Women, Shorkot and Zarghona College for Women, Wah Cantt., could pass the B.Sc. examination and thus results of these colleges remained zero.
Similarly, the B.A result of Government Mansoora Model Degree College, Wahdat Road, Lahore remained zero.
Speaking on this occasion, vice-chancellor Punjab University Arshad Mahmood offered all the position holders tuition free admission in the University, besides awarding merit scholarships.
He said that the government has substantially increased the grants and provided Rs 1500 million during last five years. He awarded cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 65,000 and Rs 50,000 for first, second and third position holders in B.A and B.Sc. examination along with merit certificates.
Earlier, the Controller of Examination Professor Dr Ehsan Malik highlighted the salient features of the results and said that number of unfair mean cases has declined, as only 54 cases were reported from the examination centres, while 147 cases were registered on account of making request/appeal by the students in their answer sheets.
However, all the unfair means cases have been decided well before the declaration of the results. He also announced the date for supplementary examination, which would be held in second week of October 2005, and admission forms in this regard could be submitted with single fee till September 14, 2005.
The B.A/B.Sc. Annual Examination 2006 will be held in March-April 2006 for which admission forms from registered candidates would be accepted till 11th November 2005, he added.
