Government elementary colleges to be reorganised

Sindh Education and Literacy Department has decided to reorganise and strengthen Government Elementary Colleges to revamp teachers' training with main focus on in-service education of teachers. This decision was taken in a high level meeting held by Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Dr Hamida Khuhro at her office here on Tuesday.
Secretary Education and Literacy Department Syed Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha, Chairman Decentralized Elementary Education Project (Deep) Inamullah Dharejo, Director IT Project Abdulla Fatah Tunio, Director Information Technical Education Sindh Raja Ghulam Hussain and Addition Secretary (A&T) were also present in the meeting.
Director Bureau of Curriculum & Extension Wing Sindh Jamshoro (BOC&E) briefed about the current structure and activities of BOC&E.
In the meeting Minister Education Sindh said that present standard of teacher training was not satisfactory which ultimately affected quality education efforts negatively.
She directed to develop teachers' training modules in accordance to ground realities and added that in-service training of teachers should be as main focus instead of pre-service teacher training through elementary colleges.
On the occasion, it was decided to arrange on war foot basis, two to three month's service training for teachers to be recruited, before their induction in to school. The training will be carried out through BOC&E in collaboration with PITE Sindh Nawabshah and AKUIED.
The meeting further decided to merge various teachers' training institutions located in small towns into District Headquarter based Elementary Colleges, to strengthen the teacher training components. It also decided to take back special Education Institutions given to District Governments through Devolution Plan.
Dr Hamida Khuhro also ordered to review the subjects to be taught in Elementary Colleges along with inclusion of subjects of History, Geography & Social Science.
The meeting also decided to re-designate two posts of Deputy Directors/Subject specialists to bring sustainable improvement in the working of Bureau. The meeting further decided to hire Specialists from market on contract basis.
It was also decided to review the Curriculum, and prepare recommendations for Federal Government authorities to include into curriculum the local culture and heroes, biographies etc.
Minister Education Sindh also reviewed the progress of Deep & IT Projects and directed the concerned Project Directors to implement the projects in letter & sprit.
