US coffee futures rose Tuesday, buoyed by speculative and roaster buying amid concerns about supply tightness from damaged coffee stocks a day after Hurricane Katrina slammed into Louisiana, traders said.
The New York Board of Trade's washed-arabica contract for December delivery rose 2.25 cents, or 2.3 percent, to settle at 98 cents a lb, after trading from 95.30 to 98.80 cents. March arabica climbed 1.95 cents to $1.0145 cents a lb, and back month contracts advanced 0.60 to 1.80 cents. The front-month September , which has its first delivery day on Thursday, gained 1.90 cents to 94.50 cents a lb.
