The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued tender for the sale of 50,000 metric tons of refined sugar from its stock to ease local prices and ensure sufficient supply during Ramazan.
TCP Chairman Syed Masood Alam Rizvi said on Thursday that the bidding for that tender would be held on September 7, and added the TCP had taken that decision on the instructions of Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, which met in Islamabad on Thursday.
He said sugar mills and their agents would not be allowed to participate in the bidding to avoid speculation, adding traders, importers of sugar or any individual would be eligible to take part, provided he or she had National Tax Number and Sales Tax registration.
Rind said the TCP would offer 50,000 tonnes of sugar to the interested buyers at Rs 23 per kilogram from its stock stored at 21 sugar mills in the country.
The corporation had a stock of about 300,000 tons of sugar, which was procured from various local mills last year on the instructions of the government to bail out sugar industry, he said.
