Sonia Naz, an alleged rape victim of the Faisalabad, on Friday recorded her statement before DIG (Crime) Zafar Qureshi who heads the committee holding inquiry into the matter. Her statement was recorded in the office of Asma Jahangir, a human rights activist and counsel for the victim.
In her statement, Sonia alleged that SHO Jaranwala Jamshaid Chishti and SP Investigation Faisalabad Khalid Abdullah abducted her to an unknown place where she was tortured and raped. She said that the incident took place in Lahore. At that time she was living in a rented house in Johar Town where plainclothes men abducted her. "They forcefully kept me for four-five days, during which I was raped by Jamshaid Chisti, while Khalid Abdullah urinated in my month," she said.
After patiently hearing the ordeal of a wife of an official of Excise and Taxation department, the DIG assured the victim of full protection and justice. The recording of statement and cross-examination took four hours.
Asma Jahangir toldBusiness Recorder that since the incident had taken place in the jurisdiction of Satto Katla Police Station, a case would be registered there.
Later, on behalf of Sonia, Asma sent a lawyer to the Satto Katala Police Station to file an application for registration of FIR in which both the SP and the SHO were named as accused in the rape case. She complained that despite submitting the application, the police was using delaying tactics to avoid registration of FIR. "This was tantamount to refusal of registering the FIR and consequently denying justice," she added.
When Satto Katla Police Station was contacted, it denied receipt of such application. Till the filing of this report, Satto Katala Police Station had not registered the FIR.
