Legislation on cards to end quackery: minister

Minister Health Punjab, Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said that the improvement will improve standard of medical education and quality of health sciences to meet modern requirements, while legislation will be introduced to end quackery.
Addressing a delegation of doctors and medical teachers, he said that elements playing with the lives of the innocent people will not be spared, according to a press release issued here on Friday.
"The present government has introduced a chain of reforms in the health sector to uphold the dignity of the medical professions" he said, adding that high treatment costs of ten drove people to turn to non-professionals and quacks, with drastic results in the form of spread of Hepatitis B and C, and other fatal diseases.
The government will ensure the supply of standardised medicines to the people, he said, adding that the relevant laws to eliminate quackery will be strictly implemented. He said that improper storage of medical supplies and violation of hygiene principles will also be strictly dealt with, and corrective measures ensured.
