National Consultative Workshop on Kotri Barrage Downstream Studies is being organised jointly by Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI) and Action Aid Pakistan on Monday.
The workshop, aimed at discussing the draft reports of studies, will be held at Sidco Center.
Two studies of Kotri Barrage downstream are being conducted by two separate consortiums of national and international experts to ascertain the Indus flow needs to prevent seawater intrusion and environmental degradation downstream Kotri Barrage, especially in the Indus Delta region of Sindh.
Environmental, irrigation and livelihood experts and civil society leaders from all the four provinces of Pakistan would participate in the workshop to review the drafts of the studies being conducted as per Para-7 of Water Accord 1991. The studies are being carried out after a delay of 14 years.
The draft reports of these studies, which are crucial for the future survival of the Indus Delta, show a large-scale variations between the study TORs and study reports and problems in methodological framework and inconsistencies in the report structures.
