Blasts damage power supply tower in Karachi

Unknown miscreants tried to blow-up a 220,000kv electricity tower here at the National Highway near Port Qasim turning on Sunday, a Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) spokesman told PPI.
Sultan Hassan said that out of four pillars of the pole two were destroyed when explosives attached with them went off. Had the remaining two supportive pillars collapsed a major catastrophe would have taken place, he added, citing at the high intensity of electricity pole.
"Explosions tilted the pole but strong wires and two sides held it from falling on the road, otherwise traffic would have blocked besides disruption in power supply to the city. He said following the failed sabotage bid, the KESC engineers, other senior and security officials reached the site.
