Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim has said that in the presence of General Musharraf, holding of fair and impartial elections in the country is not possible.
Briefing the media people on the informal meeting of ARD leadership held at the residence of Nawabzada Mansoor Ali Khan's residence here on Sunday he said: "The opposition understands that no fair elections can be held in presence of General Musharraf."
About the September 9 strike call, he said it was given to protest the rigging in the local bodies elections, price hike, state terrorism, and lawlessness in the country. He, however, pointed out in reply to a question that the purpose of this strike call was not formation of a grand alliance of opposition parties. As far as the question of formation of a combined opposition in future is concerned, it is before time, he added.
However, he maintained, all the opposition parties will continue struggle from their own platforms to liberate the country from the clutches of the present rulers.
He further told reporters that in today's informal meeting, the ARD leadership unanimously demanded holding of fresh elections in the country and formation of an independent and impartial election commission.
