Opec chief to propose 500,000 barrels per day supply hike

Opec President Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahd al-Sabah reiterated on Wednesday that he will propose the cartel raise its output by 500,000 barrels per day when the group meets next week, in an attempt to help cool prices.
Sheikh Ahmad, also Kuwaiti oil minister, first said he would propose the increase in late August. Sheikh Ahmad is in New York for a summit at the United Nations this week.
