Rulers defying Pakistan's image: PML-N

16 Sep, 2005

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) said on Thursday that formal and colossal diplomatic relations with Israel was an attempt to prove Pakistan an 'enlightened moderate' rather than an 'Islamic fundamentalist state'.
"Rulers are defying Pakistan's image and societal norms without any obvious necessity, because they are unaware of the implication of this step," said Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Central Secretary Finance Pakistan Muslim League-N and MNA.
He expressed these views while talking to PML-N workers and some legislators.
He maintained that Israel was not a mere country or state but a Zionist movement that has its own history and designs not unknown to the world but our rulers were ignorant.
He added, Zionism has been facilitated to come out of Middle East and knock at the doors of non-Arab Islamic countries.
"Its reach-out was now at the doorstep of Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia in the East. Israeli contacts with Pakistan have already created widespread unrest among the Islamic and eastern countries," he added.
According to him, confidence building measures (CBMs) with India and becoming a frontline state in war against terrorism, Pakistan has turned a new leaf to establishing diplomatic ties with Israel ignoring its traditions and policies.
He questioned what losses Pakistan was suffering by not having diplomatic relations with Israel while on the other hand, what economic or political benefits would accrue to Pakistan by opening doors to Israel.
The rulers forget that Israel was one time archenemy of Pakistan and it planned attack on our nuclear assets, he added.
