Train derails in Chicago, dozens injured

18 Sep, 2005

A commuter train derailed in Chicago on Saturday, injuring dozens, authorities said. There was one "unconfirmed report of a fatality," Tom Miller, spokesman for Metra commuter trains, told CNN television after the inbound train from Joliet derailed.
"There were injures. I do not have the exact numbers," Miller said, adding: "It is not clear at this time what caused the derailment. We will be doing an investigation."
Chicago police did not immediately confirm the report. The local CBS television station reported that "around 75 people were injured in the incident (and) 20 have been sent to the hospital."
