Several local NGOs, under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have questioned as to whether all the minor girls who had been raped were just trumping up cases as "money-making stunts" to obtain immigrant visas for foreign lands, and said that unlike other parts of the world, women were being denied justice in Pakistan.
They protested against President Pervez Musharaf's remarks against the NGOs and against women victims of male-perpetrated violence and described it an abortive attempt to tarnish the image of women and precipitated gender discrimination in the country.
The activists of the Women's Action Forum (WAF), SPNF, Awaz, Aurat foundation termed the comments of the President as, extremely prejudiced and biased, which they said had proved a stumbling block to the women's struggle for progress.
